how big do the herring get?
« on: May 17, 2013, 10:42:07 PM »

This may sound stupid but I gatta know how big do the river herring get.
The reason I ask, I was out on thurs and could not keep the herring off the rod.
I pulled up what looked to be a one pound herring.
4 to 5 times the normal size I held it up to a normal size one and spot on.
I put back in the drink as had more than enough bait.
Just wanted to know if this could be anything other than a Herring and if it was how often do you see them this size.
It was not a shad I have caught a few of them in the past.
And no pic sorry.

Was it a shad? They look similar but bigger!

Now there's a chance that if I hurry
I could beg her to stay
But that water's right
And the weather's perfect
No tellin' what I might catch today

Shouldve gotten it mounted, it would make for one heck of a conversation piece.
